Airfield Quarry Update April 2025

As you will be aware, planning permission was issued in October 2024 and Hills Quarry Products Ltd (HQP) have been working to gain the additional regulatory consents required such as water discharge consents, permits and highway agreements, as well as discharge relevant planning conditions before works starts on site.

It is planned to begin the archaeological investigations in the next few weeks (weather dependent) with work centred on the southwest of the site, where the silt management area will be created. After that we would like to begin work creating the access, plant site, offices and welfare facilities. Furthermore SSEN, the electricity company, will be doing some works later this year to relocate the overhead electrical cable crossing the site, to divert it underground, around the eastern edge of the site.

It is currently anticipated that extraction in Phase 1 (the northeast of the site) will begin in summer 2026.

It is HQP’s intention to set up a Liaison group before extraction commences and going forward. We will use that to keep the community informed of any changes or developments as the site progresses. Further information on this will be provided to Parish Councils in the coming months.
